  • The Sahé Processing Plant, the San Antonio Balanced Food Plant and the Xaya Genetic Selection Center were inaugurated in the State of Yucatán.
  • With these projects, more than 6,500 new direct jobs and a large number of indirect jobs will be generated, benefiting neighboring communities and helping to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.

On May 17, the inauguration of the first phase of the investment project announced in 2016, was carried out through Kekén. The inauguration event was attended by State authorities, collaborators and representatives of the communities.

Fernando Senderos Mestre, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo KUO highlighted: "These facilities are characterized by their high technology, innovation and functionality and will generate more than 3,000 direct jobs", which will be added to the more than 6,000 jobs they already have the business.

Here is an extract from the chronicle that was published in the most recent business newsletter, so that you can relive this moment with us:

From the stage flanked by two large screens, a ribbon decorated with multiple Kekén logos was displayed in front of the auditorium; This symbol of success and future was the bond that united the good wishes, identity and pride of the seven personalities who made the traditional inaugural court, representing the beginning of the operations destined to fulfill Kekén's strategic plan.

Fernando Senderos Mestre, Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo KUO, came down from the podium accompanied by Alejandro de la Barreda, CEO of Grupo KUO and Claudio Freixes Catalán, CEO of Kekén; The three, hosts of this historic ceremony, invited the Governor of Yucatán, Rolando Zapata Bello, to see the models that decorated the opening hall.

In a space destined to show Kekén's culture of sustainability, they appreciated the detail at scale of the new facilities: The Xaya Genetic Selection Center, where 60 thousand highly genetic females will be produced per year; the San Antonio Food Plant, which will have the capacity to produce 60 thousand tons of food in 4 production lines; and the Sahé Processing Plant, which will supply the market with 2.5 million pigs per year, which is equivalent to 300 thousand tons of meat.

These facilities will transform the State and Kekén into a world benchmark for meat technology to deliver superior quality products to Mexico and the most demanding export markets. " said Claudio Freixes.

The video was the corollary of the speeches that conveyed the emotion of the speakers: Rolando Zapata, Governor of Yucatán, referred to the social importance represented by the investment of more than 200 million dollars that underpin the economy and the development of the State; Mr. Fernando Senderos Mestre, visibly enthusiastic, especially thanked the Kekén employees, whom he invited to feel proud of having managed, with their actions, to lay the foundations of our pork business for the coming years.

Ernesto Herrera Novelo, Secretary of Economic Development of the State, said that "Yucatán continues to have Grupo KUO and Grupo KUO has Yucatán," he also pointed out that these new investments will generate more than 3,000 direct jobs; Ernesto Ek, on behalf of the sharecrop partners, detailed the benefits that Kekén has provided to the Yucatecan community and expressed the pride of being a partner of a leading global company.

The Sahé Processing Plant was the place chosen to hold the opening event, the frozen storage chamber was prepared to receive the guests, who, minutes before, had the opportunity to tour the facilities.

The day of this historic event began with a tour of the San Antonio Food Plant, where the delegation accompanied the Governor of Yucatán and the Family of Mr. Senderos to show them the facilities and receive a detailed explanation from Ornar Salinas Bastarrachea, Manager of Food plants.

This event was a resounding success and confirms that Kekén is today the number 1 producer nationwide and is among the top 20 in the world. As stated by Fernando Senderos at the end of his intervention
